What happens when Darkness and Light collide?
Seventeen is a life changing age for Emma Wise.
As her family's sole survivor in a car crash, she is left with a broken arm, and a few scrapes and bruises. But these are only outward marks; inside, her heart is broken and the pieces scattered.
Whisked away to Alaska, to an aunt she’s never met, Emma starts over. Secrets unveil themselves and now…she doesn't even know who or what she is.
A centuries old prophecy places Emma in the heart of danger. Creatures of horrifying and evil proportions are after her, and it will take Emma, her aunt, and six, gorgeously, captivating Guardians to keep her safe. But, if she can survive until her eighteenth birthday... things will change.
When you were a child, what was your dream occupation?
I know you’ve probably heard this before, but I seriously wanted to become an astronaut. As a child I used to watch space movies, and stare up at the stars and dream of one day making it to outer space. But that all ended the day I watched the Space Shuttle disintegrate right after take-off. Then my dream occupation was up in the air…until now.
Describe an incident in your life that’s helped mold you into the person you are today.
WOW. This is really tough, because I can’t really think of one that stands out. With me, there are so many moments that have molded me. I guess the one that I will choose would have to be spending time with my grandmother. When I was younger, and I’d spend the weekend with her, she’d take me to a bookstore and let me choose ANY book I wanted. I was like a kid in a candy store. After we made our choices we’d take our new books home and read. She instilled a love of reading into me, and for that…I am thankful. She’s now 87, owns a Kindle, and still reads EVERY SINGLE DAY! Amazing. I love her!!!
Who are your favorite authors?
I seriously have too many, but C.S. Lewis was my first author love with the Chronicles of Narnia. A FEW of the others are Anne Rice, Stephen King, JK Rowling.
What are you passionate about?
Life. What’s in front of me. I believe in living each day in the moment and not holding back, because we are not promised tomorrow.
What would I find in your couch cushions?
Good question! Probably popcorn and some coins.
What’s your biggest fear?
Being alone in the dark. I’m terrified of the dark.
It’s 10:00 on a Friday night. Where are you?
MOST LIKELY in bed, in my comfy, sleepy clothes, with a lap-top in front of me, writing.
What sets you apart from other writers?
Wow, tough questions. I would have to say my writing style? I write what is true to me and don’t like to “mimic” other writers. My stories are dreamed up in my head, and my characters do talk to me, and dictate the direction of my stories. It’s frustrating, but also exciting, because I’m usually clueless at what’s going to be happening next.
We’re in a bar and I’m buying you a drink. What’ll it be?
What are you currently reading?
Masquerade by Cambria Hebert. I love it so far.
How do you deal with rejection?
I don’t deal with it…I just simply move on. I won’t let negativity stop me. A rejection, a negative review… It happens. I know that there will be people who won’t like what I write, and that’s fine. I like to focus on all of the positives around me. My family, the wonderful comments and reviews from other readers, and the fact that my book is a #1 Best Seller right now!!! YAY!!!
Where did the idea for your novel come from?
The idea behind Hidden Wings was actually inspired from my debut novel In My Dreams. At the end of the story, there were some Guardians. They made a short “cameo” appearance (hehe) but they wanted their own story. So…Hidden Wings was born, and was to be about Guardians. The rest of the story/plot just fell into place.
Do you have advice for aspiring writers?
NEVER give up!!! At times it’s hard and you wonder if you’re good enough. Gosh. I’ve doubted my writing abilities and myself so many times. But, there might be someone out there who will be touched by your words. Write what’s in your head and in your heart, and just let the words flow. Your words…because YOU will always be true to yourself.
What is the toughest criticism you’ve received as an author?
I think the toughest criticism was a recent one… someone said that they couldn’t finish my book. But, it’s all good, because it is all a matter of taste.
What does your main character think about you? Would he or she want to hang around you as their author?
Emma is my girl. We’d totally have fun hanging out. Hey, I was the one who put her amongst gorgeous Guardians. She better love me. lol
Who would play the starring role(s) if your book became a movie?
Emma: Nina Dobrev ßI know she’s branded, but she was the only one I could think of given Emma’s description. I’m sure there are other awesome actresses that would be perfect.
Kade: Matt Lanter
Dominic: Chris Hemsworth
Malachi: Dwayne Johnson
The rest, I really have no clue, and don’t have time to think about it.
If you had to choose one…which song would sum up your story?
Your Guardian Angel - The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
